BURN
The UofU MedPic App provides healthcare providers with access to specialized burn care and consultation from the University of Utah Health Burn Center, ensuring that patients with burn and cold injuries receive top-tier medical attention, even from significant distances. This application allows clinical caregivers to communicate and collaborate on burn and wound management efficiently, regardless of location or time. As the exclusive academic specialty burn center in the Mountain West, we leverage this app to extend emergency burn care outreach effectively.
The MedPic app adheres to HIPAA regulations and does not retain patient images on any devices, ensuring compliance and confidentiality. Through the Burn MedPic App, physicians can:
- Exchange HIPAA-compliant images of patient injuries.
- Seek assistance for patient management from any setting.
- Consult with a qualified burn expert from an ABA-verified Burn Center.
PLASTIC SURGERY
Healthcare providers often encounter patients needing plastic surgery due to various conditions, such as wounds, extremity reconstruction, hand conditions, delayed breast reconstruction, and Mohs reconstruction. The MedPic Plastic Surgery service facilitates timely collaboration with the University of Utah Plastic Surgery team, ensuring that a response is received within one hour after a photo submission. Referring providers can also reach the team at 801-581-7719.
University of Utah Health prides itself on delivering exceptional care through highly trained Plastic Surgeons who manage complex cases with specific surgical expertise. Our network includes providers across the Wasatch Front region, including Farmington, Sugar House, South Jordan, Utah Valley, and the main University of Utah Hospital as well as Primary Children’s Hospital.
By utilizing the HIPAA-compliant app to share patient images, our specialists can assess and recommend optimal treatment options. This may include referrals to other areas or services within or beyond Plastic Surgery.
DERMATOLOGY
The MedPic Dermatology service is specifically designed to assist providers in making informed transfer and referral decisions regarding patients with potential dermatologic conditions. For example: “Does this patient exhibit signs that warrant immediate transfer for severe dermatological evaluation?”
The MedPic app streamlines a HIPAA-compliant communication process, differentiating it from traditional text or email exchanges. The dermatology teams at U of U Health utilize this application to secure and store patient images efficiently.
Additionally, U of U Health dermatologists employ the image app for evaluating serious dermatologic cases potentially requiring tertiary care. Primary care physicians are encouraged to utilize the MedPic app to determine the appropriateness of transferring patients to University of Utah Hospital or Primary Children’s Hospital.
The Burn Disaster feature is tailored for agencies responding to disaster scenarios involving burn surges that may overwhelm local resources within the Western Region Burn Disaster Consortium (WRBDC). This function serves as a secondary resource alongside existing telemedicine platforms, allowing non-burn healthcare providers to securely exchange patient images and information with burn specialists for essential consultation on triage and transfer decisions.
